Cover one side of a Bigshot embossing folder with ink by rubbing your stamp pad over it, then pop your card in (I used Crumb Cake card, and Soft Suede ink) and run it through to achieve this really neat effect.

The ink coverage will not be even so every time you will get a different effect – they are great for backgrounds, so experiment with several cards and colours to see what you can come up with.

It has been a long time since I used this set. It is perfect to create a bright modern look using the Melon Mambo embossing powder, and my first time trying out the seam-binding ribbon, isn’t it nice!

The inspiration for using these colours came from the cover of the new Summer Mini Catalogue. Not long to wait now !!

I was lucky enough to earn a free Blossom Petals Builder punch last month but haven’t yet got the coordinating stamp set. However I’ve discovered I can still do plenty with just the punch. The background on this card is made with the Music Notes standard wheel – it is great for Xmas cards.

Emboss For Effect

Adding embossing powder to an image stamped with versamark, instantly makes it stand out, and look glossy. The new embossing powder colours are wonderful too. This card uses Cherry Cobbler.

This stamp sets used are ‘French Foliage’ the retired ‘Because I Care’ Hostess set, and ‘Tiny Tags’.

Decor Wheel Makes Vintage Easy

When You’re short on time one easy way to achieve alot of coverage is to team up your stamps with a wheel. This one is Decor. It coordinates with many stamp sets and DSP’s.

I used the Mocha Morning Specialty paper with Marina Mist, Rich Razzleberry, and Pink Pirouette.

Big Shot Makes Xmas Easy

Stamp Camp Fun

We had the best time last weekend at stamp camp. Everything was top notch – the venue ( a country retreat ), the weather was fantastic, the company was the best ever, and the food – OMG I can’t wait for the next camp recipe book!

Bloomin With Beauty: Spring’s Coming!!

My friend woke yesterday to twin lambs in the paddock – a sure sign that Spring is on it’s way YAY! Even if it is trying to snow here today.

This simple card uses the Bloomin With Beauty sentiment and cute bumblebee. The leaves are from the Island Floral Bigshot Die, folded and put through the crimper. Colours used are Wild Wasabi and Cherry Cobbler.

Luggage Tags

These tags use a variety of stamp sets and scraps of paper to create a collage. They are mounted onto thicker card that is sanded and slightly distressed.

Try them, they are a quick project and allow you to be quite random –it’s just a process of building up layers to create depth by over-stamping and playing with colour.

Botanical Tri-Shutter Card

I had forgotten what impact these cards can have! The basic construction is very simple, then you have some fun ‘building’ them.

What I love about doing vintage is that so many of the Stampin Up sets coordinate and work well together. On this card I have used ‘Clearly For You’, ‘Dreams De Jour’, and ‘Tiny Tags’.

I stuck to two colours only – Bravo Burgundy and Always Artichoke and they teamed nicely with Elegant Soiree, Newsprint and Botanical Gazette DSP’s.

I enjoy using the distressing inkspots. They give any image a vintage look by sponging around and over the edges.

Just Believe Thank you Card

Try creating this shadow effect just by overstamping with different colours using the stamp-a-ma-jig. You really couldn’t achieve this look without it, and it’s very easy to do.

The main image and scalloped flowers are from the ‘Just Believe’ stamp set. I’ve used my Bigshot for the embossed background, sentiment tag and butterflies.

The colours are pretty in pink, early espresso and sahara sand.

Bigshot Beauties

Well, Ok the Gable box was not made with the Bigshot, but all the flowers were, using the Island Floral and Flower Fusion Dies.

The little scallop envelope was made by adhering the fabric to a piece of card fitting the Bigshot envelope Die. Stampin Up’s new Multipurpose Adhesive sheets make this so easy to do. All you have to do then, is run the card with the fabric attached through your machine and fold it up as you would a piece of cardstock. I was really pleased with the result. I have also achieved the same thing with the pillow box and box#2 dies, and will show you those soon.

Blissful Window Card

I’ve used the Sale-A-Bration set Bliss for this card, firstly to do the background in More Mustard, and then the butterflies and bird using Pumpkin Pie and Cherry Cobbler. You can build up a 3D effect by just using the stamps heavily applied with ink and then a light touch with the same colours, overstamping in a random way.

I couldn’t resist showing you this paper flower made with the large fancy flower punch. A great way to use up the packing paper that comes with our Stampin Up orders. The distressing inks give it a vintage look and I’ve glossed it up with Crystal Effects. The ink does run a little because the paper is not absorbent, but I like what happens to it – a slightly grunge look I guess would describe it.

Romantic Notably Ornate

This set teams beautifully with Le Jardin Botanique which I’ve used to stamp the background, and also for the inside sentiment.

The ornate frame has been coloured in using Stampin Write Markers and a blender pen for a soft romantic look.

Love Letter Stationery

I guess you’d call this box a desktop organiser. It has four little drawers, one on each side and a top container with a lift-up lid. The four drawer design tutorial I saw at http://min-hobbyblog.blogspot.com/, the blog of Kirsten Anne. I adapted it because I wanted something on the top. To make it more sturdy I’ve used thick card for the lids and base.

Notably Ornate Friendship Card

This vintage set is just adorable. I’ve teamed it up with Very Vanilla and Elegant Eggplant and the Very Vintage wheel yet again!! It is mounted on crumb cake card, embossed with the Lattice Die.

The rouched ribbon look is achieved just by using a needle and thread to gather it in. Very simple.

Fast & Fabulous Watercolours

I enjoy using a variety of Stampin Up products to achieve great watercolour effects. Experiment with marker pens, stamp pad, pencils, pastels and crayons – they all produce different looks depending on the surface you put them on, e.g. watercolour paper, glossy or normal cardstock. Use your blender pen or aqua painter to ‘pick up’ the colour, and stazon ink to ensure your image doesn’t blur.

This card uses the level two hostess set ‘ Fast & Fabulous’ , the Level one paper pack and Poppy Parade card.

Aviary Birthday

This cheerful little card uses the Aviary stamp set. The sentiment is from the ‘Picture This’ set. Black and red never fail to look great together. The DSP is ‘Love Letter’.

Shabby Chic Roses and Lace

This card combines the specialty papers, lattice embossing die and scraps of lace with paper roses to really indulge my love of all things shabby.

These flowers were made by stamping an image onto card, sponging the edges, and then the 5 petal punch was used to make three flowers similar to ones made in a previous blog. See there for more detailed instructions.

Accordion Boxes of Christmas Joy

Happy Golden Anniversary

I used the beautiful ‘Very Vintage’ wheel for this card, and added a bit of colour to it with markers, blender pen, metallic gold ink and sponging. Ribbons, flower fusions, hardware and lace were added to make it romantic and special.

The sentiments are from the retired hostess set ‘Congrats’. I embossed the Not Quite Navy card using the Vintage wallpaper die, and stamped it with a medallion from the ‘Vintage Labels’ set.

Vintage, vintage, vintage….. It’s what I’m into at the moment!!

Vintage Paper Roses

These sweet little roses were made using the extra large flower punch. The DSP is ‘Love Letter’ which I overstamped with the Friendly Words wheel. I did give the paper a good old beating up after I’d cut out the petals, and then went around the edges of one rose lightly using a blender pen and Cherry Cobbler ink.

Torn Paper Flowers

These flowers are easy to make and are ideal for dressing up a scrapbook page. Here’s how;

Draw a series of freehand circles in differing sizes. They do NOT need to be perfect circles!! Tear around them carefully. I brayered Summer Sun ink onto white cardstock so that it would produce a white torn edge, but you can use any card or DSP.

Now scrunch the circles into little balls, giving them lots of creases for that ‘distressed’ look. Layer the circles from largest to smallest and adhere with a brad. To tart them up a bit I attached strips of ribbon to make a kind of rosette. I stapled the ribbon pieces together and stuck them to the flower using Tombo adhesive.

The finished flower was just perfect for my Summer themed scrapbook page.

Red Rooster Birthday

This hostess set is perfect for masking. All you do is stamp the rooster onto a post-it-note and cut it out carefully. Stamp the rooster again, this time onto the cardstock. Place the cut out over the top and then stamp the background words over and around it for a great effect.

Holiday Line Up Fun

If you haven’t given watercolours a go yet, then this set is just the one to practice with. I have used a combination of crayons, pencils and stampin write markers. By putting a small amount onto a plastic lid it is very easy to pick up the colour with a blender pen. Continue colouring until you get the shade you like, the more you put on the darker the colour.

Have you been caught up in the Punch art craze? Some friends and I gave some a try the other night, and it was fun! There are literally dozens of little critters you can make with just your punches. Most are very simple so would be ideal if you are working with children – they would love these. The other good thing is it is a great way to use up all your scraps of cardstock.

I have been experimenting with recessed window cards – They are quite effective, a little bit different, and best of quick and easy!

The Winter Blues

Finally, I’ve managed to get onto the blog! I’ve been suffering from Winter lethargy I think . The cold definitely effects my creativity, I just can’t drag myself away from the fire – bad eh! But I’m pleased to report that my Mojo has returned, and I’ve been a busy wee beaver lately.

The Spring Mini Catalogue is unveiled on August 1st – YAY – so go to the Product News link for information. Of course, I will have to keep you in suspense until August 1, but find out how you can be among the first to receive your catalogue, and what you can win!!

Spring Is In the Air

What a difference a bit of sunshine makes! Today has been a lovely sunny day so the bright , bold stamp sets have been inked up to match the mood.

Do give the Build-a-Brads a try. They are simple to use, just punch out the paper you want to use for the brad, attach it to the base with a dot of Tombo glue and pop the plastic top onto the paper. It gives a slightly magnified appearance. they are fun!

Bloomin With Beauty – So Many Ways

We had lots of fun at last weeks 3D class experimenting with watercolour pencils, pastels, crayons and markers to create some really lovely ‘beauties’. We all had our favourite techniques and were really thrilled with the results. Have you tried to mix a few drops of re-inker with a little bit of dazzling diamonds and a squirt of crystal effects? No, neither had we! It’s a quick and effective way of adding a little sparkle to an image so give it a try. To create an authentic watercolour look with any of the mediums in the photo, use your blender or aqua pen to ‘drag’ the colour and you will find that it blends it softly and easily. Watercolour paper produces a totally different effect than normal cardstock too.

Jacinta and I worked hard all weekend at the Craft Show, and as usual it was a great experience. Here’s what part of the stall looked like before the rush!!

Urban Garden Love Affair

I have been head down over the past week, putting together display items for the craft show. I’ve decided to really feature the Urban Garden range and create things that may give people ideas for easily made gifts. Yes, I’ve been to Spotlight - and snapped up some of their great sale bargains. I’ve learned along the way that although you pay for what you get in terms of quality, by using Stampin Up papers and stamps you really can make a silk purse out of a sows ear!! Take a look-

Have you tried doing the little torn tags demonstrated on on page 70 of the catalogue? They are very easy to make and give homemade gifts that extra special touch.

The wrapped soap is made by stamping directly onto tissue paper, then scrunching it up into a tiny ball. Spread it out very carefully so you don’t rip it, and paste it onto cardstock.

I’ve used Very Vanilla for this one. Don’t smooth out the wrinkles because they are what creates the beautiful texture. When the tissue paper is completely dry, use a lighter coloured stamp pad and stamp over the entire sheet of tissue, or drag the pad from one end to the other. To finish off, tear around all edges. I’ve used the stamp from Le Jardin Botanique to create my gold embossed label, and used Pocket Silhouettes for the main tissue paper image, stamped in Not Quite Navy, and Baja Breeze over top. Give it a try.

This tin that I picked up for $3.00 is going to be filled with retro trendy trees , cheep talk birds, flowers and owls . I’ll show you the finished product later in the week!

The sewing tin filled with Stampin Up ribbon looks lovely too. At our last 3D class everyone received a tin, and we lined them with various Designer Series papers .

Last of all is a chipboard handbag covered with ‘Sweet Always’ DSP. It’s still a work in progress, I don’t have a clue yet what I’ll do with it, maybe I could make some flowers out of the same papers, who knows, any suggestions ??

Crafty Creations

My 3D classes are providing me with heaps of challenges. Not only do we like to create beautiful gifts to share with others, the ladies who come along look forward to trialling new techniques as well. Last week we had fun making stamped ceramic tiles, candles and wrapped soap using stamped, scrunched up tissue paper.

This coaster is achieved by stamping an image onto tissue paper and adhering to the tile. I used a stamp from ‘Fresh Cuts’ which was the perfect size for the tile . This is also the stamp used as a background coordinate for the ‘Fresh Cut Notes’ cards.

Upsy Daisy

This set was one I couldn’t wait to get my hands on – I Love it!

Here I’ve stamped it onto glossy card that’s been brayered first. Oh, and the little dragonfly is from the hostess set Organic Garden.

I did promise to show more of what I’m doing for the craft show display. I haven’t got much more gathered up yet, but did find time the other night to make a cute mini album on chipboard using ‘Sweet Always’ papers, stick-on’s from the ’Petal Party’ Simply Scrappin kit, and dressed it up a bit with flower fusions and brads. I always buy my chipboard items from ‘Spotlight’ and this little one is great because it’s quick and easy to build.

My daughter Georgia takes the opportunity to peddle her wares at the show too, raising money to support her Synchronised Swimming events. She has decided to tempt the kids with cellophane bags of lollies and has punched and stamped out about 60 kiddie tags to put on the front of the bags. They are still a work in progress but look quite cute already. The stamp set she used is of course the ‘All in the Family’ set. I hope all her hard work pays off!

This last card was fun to make and shows how well different sets compliment each other. It uses stamps from Organic Garden, Fresh Cuts, and Le Jardin Botanique (yes… again!). I’ve simply overlayed them in different colours and clear embossed the big Fresh Cuts stamp for the background. I also coloured in the images very lightly using Stampin Write markers and blender pen. The colours used are perfect plum, sage shadow and blush blossom onto very vanilla card.

With all the new stamp sets on offer in 2009 / 2010 catalogue it’s easy to overlook little gems like Tart & Tangy. I love it’s crisp freshness and simplicity.

My week has been spent trying out things for the Stampin’ Up display stand at our local craft show next month. While I wait on my ‘Urban Garden’ papers and coordinating stamp sets, I thought I’d try dyeing some shop bought fabric flowers into the blues and greens of the Urban Garden range. They turned out great using Stamp n Write markers don’t you think!

I have also been experimenting with candles, and it’s such a simple technique I’ll definitely do more. For those attending my 3D class on Tuesday night, this is a sneak preview of what we’ll be doing. They are good fun to do, and very quick.

Still More Le Jardin

When I sat down to create a card for my Mum for Mothers Day I just couldn’t help reaching for this lovely set again. It is so versatile, there is such alot you can do with it.

Now, I really don’t think that Mum will get this one, but she does live in Queenstown , so she’d appreciate the Autumn colours!

I tried brayering the background like I’d seen done, cased from Splitcoast Stampers – (cased meaning copy and share everything- thanks Ali , I did always wonder what that stood for!) but in the end I thought the sponging gave a softer look. I started at the bottom corner with Summer Sun, then gradually added and overlapped with the other colours, getting darker as I went until the Chocolate Chip in the opposite corner. I then went back over the bottom corner very gently with Basic Black to give the appearance of some ground.

I am lucky enough to be a part of a really supportive Stampin Up team, and sometimes I even receive surprise cards in the mail. Not so long ago I got one from Vicky in Christchurch, so I’ve put my own wee spin on it , and I think Mum will love it!

Watercolouring is great fun, and very forgiving! Start off lightly and build the colour gradually. Try to imagine the sun hitting the image at a certain angle and do those bits lighter, or leave them completely without colour. That’s what I do anyway, but it is trial and error while you get the hang of it!

I have really been having fun with this lovely set. It compliments the Bella Rose papers perfectly.

It will also be fun to use with blender pens to create a watercolour effect. That’s the next thing I can’t wait to have a go with, maybe tonight if I get the chance!

Party Hearty

Things have been a little busy over the last week as I prepared, and then attended my first Stampin Up regional meeting, but it was well worth it. Meeting other demos (and Emma and Holly from head office) were the highlights for me, Oh and did I mention the freebies. This is the card I did for my swaps, and I received about twenty in return – How great is that! The stamp set is Party Hearty, and the colours are all from the In Color range.

Explosion Box

Well I did get to do a wee demo for the girls, (they call it a WOW) and yes, I think they liked it! There are many different versions of this box around, and you can really use your imagination when deciding what to put inside it. A scrapbook looks effective, and so do little gift sets, lollies, etc etc. It’s up to you how many layers you add, if any, so experiment with it – Mothers Day is coming up so this may be just the thing.

Loving Those New Colours and Designs

Have you ordered any of the new Designer Series Papers yet, or are you having a hard job deciding just which ones to get first? There really is something for everyone – retro, floral, traditional, bold…

I must confess, I am still waiting on mine to arrive too, and I have to have 15 swaps completed by Friday to take to a Stampin’Up! regional meeting next Saturday ! Yikes, I hope they arrive soon.

So, the designs below aren’t my creations, but they are fantastic and really show off the new colours and designs. They are all by Alex Hughes. Alex lives in NSW, Australia and if you want to visit her blog go to stampinwithalex.blogspot.com

At our StampinChat club last Monday night the ladies who came all did a masking technique, and although no photos were taken on the night I have found one Alex has done to show you something similar to what they achieved. Not bad eh? Some used lovely as a tree, and others used the cute Garden Whimsy butterfly.

They also had fun sussing out a reflection technique using acetate. It worked really well. I’ll get the tutorial and some examples up on the blog in the next day or so.

What a huge day! Thankyou to everyone who came - you all made the day a fantastic one for me. I really enjoyed catching up with 'my regulars' and spending time with my new customers. Some great creations were made, ideas and experiences shared and lots of laughs were had. Well done to you all. I will now turn my attention to getting some classes up and running so will keep you in the loop with those. I would really like to hear from everyone what sort of class would interest you the most. I just couldn't resist sharing this cute pop up card with you. I am sure many of you will be familiar with Beate Johns who designs for SCS. Beate has posted this on their website along with the tutorial. This stamp set is called 'Cheep Talk', not one available in the Aus/NZ catalogue, but who knows it may just be included in the new one!!

Faux Metal Tag

In my last newsletter I sent you instructions on how to create a fake metal look using embossing powder. This image was created by Lynn (username lbirus). She posted it to Splitcoast Stampers recently. I think it's a great example of the technique that just might tempt you to give it a try. The stamp is from the Sale-A-Bration brochure and it's called "Polka Dot Punches". Here's the tutorial again for those who don't have it.
